Jerimih first broke out in the music industry with the song ‘Birthday Sex’ back in 2009. The song was everywhere! For some it quickly became annoying whilst others couldn’t get enough of it. ‘Birthday Sex’ peaked at number fifteen on the UK Official Charts and number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. As big as the song and debut album was (The album debuted at number 6 on the US Billboard 200, selling 69,000 copies in its first week), for some reason I didn’t see Jeremih as a mainstay in the music industry. His second album released the following year didn’t do nearly as well as his debut only selling 18,000 first week. It did however produce another hit song in ‘Down on me’ ft. 50 Cent but after that Jeremih soon became just “that guy on the chorus”.
It’s been 6 years since the release of ‘Birthday Sex‘ and in that time i’ve developed into a fully fledge Jeremih fan, who has now become impatient waiting on a third album that just can’t seem to get out. It was the critically successful mixtape ‘Late Nights with…’ in 2012 that changed my opinion with singles such as Rosa Acosta, 773 love, and ‘All the time’, I decided to give Jeremih a chance.
With such a highly rated mixtape behind him you would think the album would be coming anytime soon but you’d be wrong. “Late Nights” the album has now been pending for over 3 years and every year since, there’s been news of it dropping soon, but still nothing as we go into the final quarter of another year.
In 2014 Jeremih released the highly anticipated collaborative E.P with producer Shlohmo entitled ‘No More‘. The EP is 6 tracks long and consist of bassline-heavy, new age R&B productions that once again diversifies and develops the sounds of Jeremih.
In that same year along with dropping one of the biggest singles of the year in ‘Don’t tell em’ ft. YG (his third top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100), Jeremih also released a collection of songs that won’t feature on the album appropriately titled ‘N.O.M.A’ (Not On My Album)
He’s featured on almost everybody else’s song producing gems like ‘ThimSlick‘ with Fabulous and this years ‘Freak of the week’ with U.K duo Krept and Konan. The latter single and the J.cole assisted single ‘Planes’ means Jeremih is still everywhere in 2015, but that album needs to come fast because the new newcomers like Bryson Tiller and Tory Lanez are hot on the tail.
