When Future said “You do what you want when you’re popping!”, no part of that line was a lie. In the music game if you are hot, you are hot. You can pretty much do what you like and in 2016 in music, that means having a flourishing music career with “no major label, no manager, no agents..” as Wiley wisely preached on his twitter account today.
Below we have 7 more lessons from the wise one that is Wiley (@WileyUpdates).
1. All you need is your talents and a business brain
In grime you do not need managers major labels or agents .You just need you’re mc/dj/producer brain and a business brain .

2. Keep all money coming in your way. That means do not sign it all away to someone else
If you are popping in grime today . Do not sign a deal . You know why ? . Cos a major deal is 17/83 ??? keep all money flowing your way. — Chasing The Art #BBK (@WileyUpdates) January 17, 2016
3. As DJ Khaled’s previously pointed out, “They” don’t want you to see the light. “They” will never have your best interests at heart. Think for yourself.
I was taught that you can’t be nothing without a major label engine . We know why they taught me that. They didn’t want me to see the light — Chasing The Art #BBK (@WileyUpdates) January 17, 2016
4. If you’re already doing well off your own product, brand and sweat. (Raking in views on Youtube, Multiple Bookings etc.) Forget an advance and save that show money, then make more money.
If you are already making money cos of you’re product and brand. Why give it to someone else to sell . Do u even need an advance ? Shows pay — Chasing The Art #BBK (@WileyUpdates) January 17, 2016
5. Treat the music business the same way you would hustling on the roads. Don’t just hand over your line once it is popping. Thats backwards.
Own you’re label and music the way you would own you’re phone line when you’re hustling on the roadside . — Chasing The Art #BBK (@WileyUpdates) January 17, 2016
6. Remember you are in control. You are the one with the buzz and the fans. Not them.
If you are new fresh and popping and everyone is on you’re case . Don’t sign a deal . You have them in you’re pocket anyway .

7. In the end, it is always down to the music and selling records. If you can sell directly to an audience, you have all the power you need.
We were on the right path in the beginning selling white labels out the car boot . #PurestTimes of our careers . Shotting records Bruv — Chasing The Art #BBK (@WileyUpdates) January 17, 2016
