Kaniva makes a splash on the scene with the release of his summery new single and matching music video ‘Okay’.
Growing up in South West London, Kaniva made a name for himself on the streets and in the clubs, putting on and headlining events with the likes of Stormzy, Avelino, Ms Banks and many more. Despite this, life set him back, with stints of homelessness and illness that put him on life support and cast a shadow over his rising career.
Having risen to viral fame with his BL@CKBOX freestyle and that Cardi B lyric earlier this year, Kaniva returns with this feel-good new record. Backed by sunny production from SSK (B Young, Mowgli) and DJ Scyther, the song is bursting with melodic energy which Kaniva lays down an infectious chorus over, as well as some hook worthy lyrics in his verses too. Expect “Black people always coming in late!” to be shouted out at every rave for the rest of the summer months.
“2015, 2016 and 2017 were without a doubt the most challenging years of my life. I overcame homelessness, was on life support from heart failure, all things that took me away from being a musician,” said Kaniva. “Then I became a father and things started to change. Signing with GRM has given me a fresh start and this song is a testament to that. ‘Okay’ is a toast to life and to new beginnings.”
The accompanying video, directed by Oliver G, follows the South Londoner on a chase for a girl through a bunch of hilarious settings.
