Knox Brown surprises fans with some late summer sun in the form of ‘Flex’– the smoothest slice of future R&B you’ll hear all year. [Listen here on Dope Finds]
On ‘Flex’ Knox sounds both familiar and groundbreaking and has said the following about it:
“Flex is about being carefree and being able to show off for once without any repercussions or judgements. Based on society’s ideals and how social media has affected the way we live. After working hard for years and finally being in a position to be able to live that ‘Flex’ life you have seen on TV and in people whilst growing up as a young boy in Jamaica and England”.
Knox’s music follows him from the streets of Kingston, Jamaica where he spent his childhood, to the Midlands (Birmingham) where his parents relocated when he was 12 years old and finally to London where he recently moved.
Throughout Knox’s career he’s worked as a producer and songwriter alongside an impressive line-up of music A-Listers, including Beyoncé, Jay Z, Janelle Monae, Mary J. Blige, H.E.R., Emeli Sandé, Timbaland and Jess Glynne.
His debut EP, ‘Searching’, was a six track collection that featured appearances from Anderson Paak (No Slaves), BJ The Chicago Kid and Kojey Radical. The release was dark and contemplative, designed to be played in headphones, deep in thought, as Knox considered his place both as a human being in a foreign land, and a musician finding his niche.
Knox has come to the conclusion, after years of searching for his sound, that he doesn’t have one; instead he’s following his heart, trusting his gut, and making the best music of his career. With production duties on the back burner 2018 is the year when Knox Brown puts himself front and centre.
