Danie, a new afrobeat artist hailing from Nigeria, emerges with a debut EP that will surely blow your mind.
The singer-songwriter has burst on to the scene with a 7-track EP that carefully illustrates the story of who he is, his song-writing style, and choice of genre fusions.
Kicking off with “Rock my World”, it’s clear to see his musical influences as he interpolates Michael Jackson’s infamous version at the beginning of the song. “Konkobility” is a focus-track on the EP, giving a typical afrobeat vibe, and can actually be likened to Anybody by legend and Grammy award-winning Burna Boy. On the third track “Energy”, you hear a beat sightly similar to Dumebi by household name Rema, and I believe the opening 3 songs clearly show Danie has gained inspiration from those he looks up to the most.
The standout song for me, is Energy. I think he rides the track so well, with the lyrics flowing effortlessly over the instrumental. This song has an R&B feel to it, and if you know me – you know that’s my forte. Although Danie is a Nigerian artist, I would definitely say he is more than just afrobeats. The EP shows range in genres, giving slower tracks alongside the party ones. Overall, it’s a great introduction to who Danie is as an artist.
“Energy” has been on repeat for me since I first came across this EP, and I truly look forward to following his career journey.
